Back in March 2021, during the pandemic, having an entire room to my disposal, I decided I would renovate it and furnish and decorate it.
This is what I wrote when I launched my instagram page:
"l am overjoyed to finally share with you my One Room! The One Room concept is not an idea that I dreamed up, but something that I stumbled upon seven years ago, when I moved to a small village and started working with a charity. Here, I have always lived in one room, not necessarily by choice, but more due to circumstances, as it is for many of the people with whom the charity works.
I know... it is very unusual when you go visit someone to see the bed and the sofa and the wardrobe and the coffee table in one room ... but somehow it has become the most normal thing to me and so much more.
Every new (to me) piece of furniture or trinket that I have acquired over time, and I have acquired many, somehow fits in the room. I am not in search for perfection, but somehow, I still find it. I find it for each object that was maybe on its own, or neglected, and I bring them together to create wholeness.
One Room is my way of inviting you over and sharing with you the kind of beautiful that I have collected over the years, the old, the vintage, the small beautiful treasures found in second-hand shops and local markets. I want to share their stories, and if you come to love them just as much as I do, you might even be able to take them home with you!"
It's almost three years since I have posted that, and I still find myself in the middle of it all. I don't live in one room anymore, so now I have many rooms to fill!! But the idea carries on, in a much more official way, that includes even an invoice! :)
Would you join me in making things last a bit longer and giving them a new setting where they can brighten up a lowly corner?
It would be awesome if you did! :)
